Astrology is the parent of Astronomy. For many years they were one science. Ancient civilizations observed the patterns of the stars to understand the heavens and to understand human life. However, since the 17th century, Astrology and Astronomy have diverged into 2 distinct fields of knowledge. Thus, Astronomy is the study of the science and nature of the cosmos and Astrology is the study of the relationship between life and the cosmos.

For centuries there has been a misunderstanding concerning the nature of astrology to the effect that the heavens somehow “influence” events here on Earth.  However, professional astrologers do not hold with theories of celestial influence.  Instead, the modern astrologer conceives of the heavens and Earth as united – interpenetrating, and sharing a common space and time.  The great cosmic or celestial events happening around and beyond the Earth (eclipses, lineups, and so on) are not seen as causing events to occur on Earth, but as great signatures of events also happening here on Earth.  In other words, there is no “cause” in the heavens followed by an “effect” here on Earth.  Instead, both planetary and earthly events happen simultaneously and are mutually reflective.  Neither is the cause of the other; both are the product of the moment, one acted out in the heavens above, the other here on the Earth below.

Cosmic Clockwork: Timing and Transits

Just as the planets move through the zodiac, they also form dynamic relationships with each other and with the points in our birth chart. These celestial alignments, known as transits, trigger significant events and milestones in our lives. By understanding the timing of these transits, astrologers can anticipate opportunities for growth, challenges to be overcome, and the unfolding of our personal narratives within the larger cosmic story.

While astrologers don’t feel that heavenly events are the cause of events here on Earth, they do feel that specific heavenly events are enacted here on the Earth too – at the same moment.  In other words, there is only one grand “play.”  The great drama enacted in the sky is also acted out here on Earth in the same instant.  Another way to say this is that the Earth is part of the cosmos and shares in that cosmic moment.  In summary, Astrology is a study of heavenly cycles and cosmic events as they are reflected in our earthly environment – a vast cosmic clock.  The planets are like a mirror to what is happening in our own lives.

Astrology teaches us that there is harmony and symmetry in the universe and that everyone is part of a larger whole. Astrology is best thought of as a philosophy that helps to explain life rather than as a predictive art or science.  The purpose of astrology is not to blame the planets for what happens to us, but rather to learn more about ourselves. When we see ourselves more clearly we are able to lead more fulfilled, purposeful and productive lives.

While Astrology provides us with great insight into our inherent character and potentials, our lives are not predetermined. We all have “free will” or freedom of choice. Astrology reveals the “hand” we have been “dealt” in life.  It is up to us to decide how to “play” that hand.  But by revealing our true character, particular life lessons we have to learn and issues to be dealt with, astrology helps to guide us on life’s journey.

The planets orbiting the Sun form a unit within our Universe which we call our solar system. The various parts of this unit, their relationship with each other and with the stars which form the backdrop for our system, are the tools which all astrologers use to describe the energies associated with our physical, mental and spiritual lives. Astrology compares the movement of the celestial bodies with our lives here on Earth. Our human potential is described by our natal horoscope which is cast for the moment of birth. While the Signs in the Tropical and Sidereal Zodiacs differ for a given date and planet, the energies are expressed in a similar fashion.

Astrology, an ancient tool for self-understanding, relationships, and life’s journey, stems from the belief in the interconnectedness of everything in the universe. It explores the profound connection between us and the planets at the moment of our birth, influencing every aspect of our lives on Earth, including love and finances.

As you unravel the language of astrology, its practicality and coherence become evident. Astrology is an ancient and fascinating art that seeks to understand the influence of celestial bodies on human life. It is the study of how the positions and movements of planets, the sun, and the moon at the time of a person’s birth can impact their personality, behavior, and life experiences.

Astrology, a captivating ancient practice, unveils a universe of knowledge waiting to be explored. To delve into its depths, one must understand its diverse branches, rich history, and the unique characteristics of the zodiacal circle. The study of astrology encompasses a wide range of aspects, including the elemental influences, planetary alignments, and the significance of astrological houses. By immersing ourselves in this celestial language, we gain profound insights into our personalities, relationships, and life’s journey, opening doors to self-discovery and a deeper connection with the cosmos.
